Chosho Matsumoto-Shakuhachi Meijin


Chosho Matsumoto is in Hokkaido. He is a holder of shakuhachi meijin-the expert of shakuhachi. There are only 29 meijin in Japan (until the end of 2005). Among them are several musicians who were great person in Japanese music history. :Unchiku Narita(Minyo singer), Tansui Kikuchi(Shakuhachi player), Chikuzan Takahashi(Tsugaru shamisen player), Isamu Yashita(Shakuhachi player) and so on.
After succeeded to the Koji school, Chosho Matsumoto taught Minyo shakuhachi in Japan and overseas. He palyed shakuhachi with many minyo singers and recorded on CD. He has been playing shakuhachi on NHK TV program for many years. His minyo history is as follows.

1970 　 He became manager of shakuhachi association in Hokkido
1977 　 He taught Minyo for handicapped people at handicapped association in Sapporo in Hokkido
1978 　 He was certified as the highest shakuhachi master at Hokkido Minyo Association
1980 　 He participated for city festival as a Shakuhachi player at munchen in Germany
1981 　 He got the cultural promotion prize from Shapporo,Hokkaido.
He became instructor for adult school and recorded 60 Minyo shakuhachi songs for 3 volumes
1990 　 He got the skilled master of Minyo prize by Japan Minyo associaton
2001 　 He was named as the top master of Shakuhahci.
He got the prize from Japanese emperor as a great musician
